Its objectives were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To identify the catchment\u2019s significant wetland areas<\/li>\n<li>To develop a catchment-wide plan outlining general principles and policies for wetland management<\/li>\n<li>To develop site-specific management guidelines for each wetland<\/li>\n<li>To help community and landholders understand and protect wetlands<\/li>\n<li>To recommend to appropriate authorities some changes to wetland planning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Research<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Literature review to outline wetland functions and values and typical threats to those<\/li>\n<li>Summary of previous research on wetlands in the Cattai catchment<\/li>\n<li>Summary of relevant legislation, planning instruments and policies for wetland conservation and management<\/li>\n<li>Literature review of wetland management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fieldwork<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Written and photographic documentation and mapping of all Cattai wetlands with focus on those of local, regional, state and national significance<\/li>\n<li>Foot, canoe and helicopter fieldwork with client, national parks staff and specialist sub-consultant wetland ecologists to update data and assess wetland condition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Community consultation and education<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Interviewing of landholders to determine wetland history and usage, assess knowledge of wetland values; identify wetland condition, resource management issues and possible strategies; and inform them of the client\u2019s role and possible assistance<\/li>\n<li>Preparation of educational brochures to help landholders and community protect wetlands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wetland management recommendations<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Development of recommendations to appropriate authorities for changes to legislation and planning for wetland protection<\/li>\n<li>Development of catchment-wide plan outlining general principles and policies for wetland management<\/li>\n<li>Recommendations for actions required of various key stakeholders for wetland conservation<\/li>\n<li>Development of a model Cattai wetland management plan structure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Client:<\/strong> Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Trust through Cattai Catchment Management Committee<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong> 1995-1996.
